As a stay-at-home mom who spends her days changing diapers, napping whenever possible, and regularly speaking in high-pitched, sing-songy baby talk, I sometimes think I can actually feel individual brain cells shrivel up and die. I’ll take intellectual stimulation wherever I can get it, including from this blog, my virtual time-out chair.

Have you tried Pinterest?

If not, be forewarned: once you start, it’s hard to stop. I sometimes find myself wondering how long until a Pinners Anonymous group emerges, complete with twelve steps to reclaiming your life. Until then, I’ll submit to the peer pressure and succumb to the temptation. I’ll continue my free fall into an abyss filled with crafts, recipes, and home decor. When I hit rock bottom, somebody please find it in your heart to pull me out of the darkness and to support me through my trembling withdrawals…

For now, let me share with you a little sampling of Pinterest, and submit YOU to a bit of pinning peer pressure. Here is a recent pin I discovered:

Sushi?

Sort of…

Peanut Butter and Jelly?

Sort of…

Isn’t it genius? What kid wouldn’t love to discover this “sushi” in their lunchbox, paired with some cute chopsticks?

So, recently, I made my own attempt at this pinteresting find. I simply cut the crust off some bread, flattened with a rolling pin, added some sandwich fixings, rolled it all up and sliced!

To accommodate the palates of my taste testers (Squirt, Squeak, and their cousin Snaggle-Tooth), I branched out beyond the simple PB&J. They also dined on the following varieties of “sushi” rolls:

Peanut Butter and Honey

Turkey and Cheese

Pizza Sauce, Pepperoni, and Cheese

And there you have it. A small glimpse into the day-to-day life of a Pinterest addict. As you can tell, it has already begun to effect my family…

… sigh…

Have you tried Pinterest? If so, were you hooked after your first pin?

  1. You did it!! So awesome that you tried this with other foods too. So cool, I’ll have to try it with other ingredients. I did it with PB&J, but only for me. And yes, I ate it with chop sticks. It was silly and yummy at the same time. Hooray for playing with your food!

    • My one recommendation is that if you do try it with other foods, there has to be something sticky, otherwise it won’t stay rolled up. So, for our cheesy ones, I melted the cheese a bit and that held it all together.

  2. I love Pinterest!! I spent an embarrassing amount of time pinning stuff. I think it’s great you tried something you found, I think that’s the great thing about Pinterest. Finding things you wouldn’t otherwise. I’ve come across so many fabulous recipes!

    • I know! I just kept pinning things and I finally decided I needed to actually follow through on one of my pins. It makes Pinterest feel like a little bit less of a time waster.

  3. I’m staying far, far away from Pinterest. I have enough things to be addicted to.

And now I’m hungry for sushi.

  7. I LOVE this idea! So cute!!!

I, too, am a Pinterest addict. It’s getting worse as time goes on. And whenever anyone asks me what I was doing when the earthquake hit, I will tell them I was pinning pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and salted caramel drizzle. Because that is exactly what I was doing. #addict <– yes, I just used a hashtag in a comment. Because I'm a twitter addict as well.
